The NSNP Experience: Express Entry stream bridges Nova Scotia’s provincial nomination system with the federal Express Entry pool. Candidates who have an active Express Entry profile (under CEC, FSW, or FST) and either Nova Scotia work experience or a Nova Scotia employer job offer can apply for a provincial nomination that delivers +600 CRS points — effectively guaranteeing a federal Invitation to Apply in the next Express Entry draw.

Since November 28, 2025, this stream operates under the unified NSNP EOI system. Candidates register an EOI, await a Notification of Interest from NSNP, and then have 30 days to submit a complete application. No provincial fee applies. The stream is particularly valuable for candidates who have CRS scores below Express Entry draw cutoffs and need the boost that only a provincial nomination can provide.

📋 Quick Facts

  • Government Fee: Provincial: $0. Federal PR: $1,525 principal applicant
  • Biometrics: $85 individual / $170 family
  • Processing Time: Provincial: 3–6 months. Federal: ~7 months (EE-linked)
  • RCIC-IRB Representation: Available — Dimple Verma R708308

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have an active IRCC Express Entry profile (CEC, FSW, or FST)
  • Must have work experience in Nova Scotia or a job offer from NS employer
  • Aligned with Express Entry — nomination provides +600 CRS points
  • Must accept nomination within 30 days of NOI
  • EOI process required since November 28, 2025
  • No provincial application fee

Eligibility Requirements

Core requirements for the Experience: Express Entry stream are:

  • Active Express Entry profile: Must be eligible under CEC, FSW, or FST and have a current, valid EE profile with IRCC.
  • Nova Scotia connection: Nova Scotia work experience in an eligible occupation, OR a permanent, full-time job offer from a Nova Scotia employer.
  • Language: CLB requirements align with the underlying Express Entry stream (CLB 7 for CEC, CLB 7 for FSW/FST at minimum).
  • EOI submission: Register on the NSNP portal and await a Notification of Interest.
  • Acceptance window: Must accept the NOI and apply within 30 days.
  • Intent to reside: Genuine intention to live and work in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia connection is the key differentiator — having an active EE profile alone is insufficient. Either NS work experience or a NS job offer is required to register a competitive EOI.

How the +600 CRS Points Work

The interaction between NSNP nomination and Express Entry is straightforward but important to understand:

  1. You hold an active Express Entry profile with your current CRS score.
  2. You receive and accept an NSNP NOI, then submit and complete your NSNP application.
  3. NSNP issues a provincial nomination certificate.
  4. You log into your IRCC Express Entry portal and indicate that you have received a provincial nomination.
  5. IRCC adds 600 CRS points to your existing score.
  6. With your new CRS score (e.g., 420 original + 600 = 1,020), you are invited in the next Express Entry draw — typically within weeks.
  7. You receive an ITA, submit your federal PR application, and await IRCC approval (~6–7 months).

This sequence means the total time from NSNP nomination to PR can be under 12 months. For candidates with CRS scores below 470–500, an NSNP nomination via Experience: Express Entry is often the most practical route to PR.

How VGIS Helps

The intersection of a provincial nomination and an Express Entry profile creates both opportunity and complexity. Errors in the EE profile — incorrect work experience, outdated language scores, or a NOC mismatch — can undermine the value of the nomination or delay the federal ITA. Dimple Verma, RCIC-IRB #R708308, audits EE profiles for accuracy before NSNP applications are filed and guides clients through the ITA response to ensure the federal PR application is airtight.

VGIS also assesses whether the Experience: Express Entry stream or the Labour Market Priorities stream is the better fit for your specific profile. Book a paid consultation to get a personalised assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much Nova Scotia work experience do I need?

NSNP has not published a precise minimum for NS work experience in this stream. Candidates with meaningful, full-time NS work experience in an eligible NOC will score most competitively. Even 6–12 months of NS work experience typically qualifies as a demonstrable NS connection for the EOI.

Can I apply if my CRS score is only 350?

Yes. The stream does not require a minimum CRS score. A provincial nomination from NSNP will add 600 points to your existing CRS, which — regardless of your starting score — will put you well above any Express Entry draw cutoff. The key is securing the nomination itself.

Can I use this stream if I am on a PGWP working in Nova Scotia?

Yes. International graduates working in Nova Scotia on a PGWP who also have an active Express Entry profile (typically CEC) are well-positioned for this stream. Your NS work experience satisfies the connection requirement, and your CEC-eligible profile satisfies the EE requirement.

Does the 30-day application deadline start from when NSNP sends the NOI, or when I open it?

The 30-day window begins when NSNP issues the NOI, not when you open it. Monitor your IRCC Express Entry account and email notifications regularly so you do not lose days before you even see the NOI.

What happens to my existing EE profile after I receive the NSNP nomination?

Your EE profile remains active. You log in and indicate the provincial nomination, which triggers the 600-point addition. You will then receive an ITA and must submit your full PR application within 60 days. Do not withdraw your EE profile before or after accepting the nomination.
