The OINP Post-Nomination Verification Unit
Under the 2026 overhaul, Ontario created a dedicated Post-Nomination Verification Unit to audit files after nomination is issued. This unit may:
- Request updated employment letters if the nomination is more than 60 days old
- Verify continued employment at the nominating employer
- Confirm ongoing CPSO registration for physician-pathway nominees
- Investigate any material change in circumstances the applicant is required to disclose

The 6-month federal PR deadline
Once you receive an OWP nomination certificate, you have 6 months to file a complete federal permanent residence application with IRCC. Missing this deadline generally voids the nomination and requires a new application.
Two federal PR routes after nomination
Route A — Non–Express Entry Provincial Nominee Class
File a paper-based provincial nominee application. Available to all three OWP pathways. Processing typically 18-24 months.
Route B — Express Entry (Enhanced Nomination)
Available to TEER 0-3 job-offer holders and self-employed physicians. Enter your OWP nomination into your active EE profile to receive an automatic +600 CRS boost, guaranteeing an ITA in the next Provincial Nominee draw. Processing typically 6 months.
TEER 4-5 nominees cannot use Express Entry because these NOCs do not qualify for federal Express Entry programs.
Recognised Ontario post-secondary institutions
For the “Canadian credentials” and “recent Ontario graduate” factors, the credential must be from a publicly-funded Ontario college, university, or Indigenous Institute. Ontario also recognises credentials from a limited set of private career colleges with vocational program approval — verify your institution on the Ontario Private Career Colleges directory.
Withdrawal, revocation & appeals
- Withdrawal: applicants may withdraw at any time before federal PR issuance. Fees are non-refundable.
- Revocation: Ontario may revoke a nomination on evidence of misrepresentation, employer failure, or material change not disclosed by the applicant.
- Reconsideration: refused applicants may request a one-time internal reconsideration within 30 days of the refusal decision. There is no formal appeal — subsequent recourse is Federal Court judicial review.
