Home/Services/Permanent Residency/Express Entry Transport Sector Draws 2026: NOC List

Share:

Transport sector category-based draws are an Express Entry selection mechanism that targets candidates with work experience in transportation occupations. Introduced in May 2023, the transport category reflects Canada’s documented labour shortages in long-haul trucking, urban transit, rail transport, and air traffic roles. As with other category draws, IRCC issues Invitations to Apply at CRS cut-off scores typically lower than general all-program draws, creating a more accessible pathway for transport workers who may not accumulate high CRS scores under standard ranking.

The transport category primarily targets NOC TEER 3 and some TEER 2 occupations. Candidates whose primary Express Entry NOC is a qualifying transport occupation automatically become eligible for transport category draws without any additional action — correct NOC entry in the Express Entry profile is the key step.

Eligible Transport Occupations and Eligibility

IRCC’s transport category has historically included occupations such as transport truck drivers (NOC 73300), bus drivers (73301), subway and light-rail transit operators (73310), aircraft pilots and flight engineers (72600), air traffic controllers (72602), and railway traffic controllers (72604). The specific NOC list is updated between draws — candidates should verify their NOC is included by checking IRCC’s most recent transport category draw notice.

To qualify, candidates must have an active Express Entry profile under FSW, CEC, or FST, with the transport NOC as their primary work experience code. Work experience can be Canadian or foreign (for FSW-eligible candidates). Language requirements follow the underlying stream — CLB 7 for FSW/TEER 0-1; CLB 5 for TEER 2-3. Professional transport licences (Class A truck licence, pilot licence, etc.) are key documentary evidence. Use the NOC Finder to confirm your transport NOC and TEER level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Class A truck driver licence from outside Canada qualify for the transport category?

Foreign transport licences can support your application but may not be directly recognised in Canada. What matters for Express Entry eligibility is the work experience in the qualifying NOC and meeting the language requirement. For Canadian employment, a foreign Class A licence may need to be converted to a provincial equivalent. Provincial requirements vary; some provinces require a knowledge test and road test, while others allow equivalency. For your immigration application, include your home country licence and supporting documentation of your driving experience.

What CRS score do transport category draws typically clear at?

Transport category draws in 2023–2024 cleared at CRS scores in the 430–460 range — lower than general draws, reflecting the policy priority to recruit workers in this sector. Cut-offs vary by draw. Monitoring IRCC’s draw history gives the most accurate picture of recent trends.

Are air traffic controllers eligible for transport category draws?

Air traffic controllers (NOC 72602) and flight service specialists have been included in transport category draws. These are TEER 2 occupations requiring college-level training or extensive on-the-job experience, and they meet the underlying FSW or CEC eligibility requirements if the experience and language criteria are met.
