The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is an Alberta Advantage Immigration Program pathway for eligible temporary foreign workers living and working in Alberta. Review the current criteria before registering an expression of interest or submitting an application. Last reviewed: October 17, 2026.

Key eligibility requirements

  • Work experience: In your current occupation, at least 12 months of full-time Alberta experience within 18 months, or 24 months in Canada or abroad within 30 months. Eligible Alberta PGWP holders need six months in Alberta within 18 months. Qualifying work must meet the program’s authorization and minimum 30-hour weekly requirements.
  • Language: CLB/NCLC 5 in each ability for TEER 0–3; CLB/NCLC 4 for TEER 4–5. NOC 33102 requires CLB/NCLC 7.
  • Occupation and job offer: Most TEER 0–5 occupations qualify, but exclusions apply. You need an eligible full-time Alberta job offer in your current occupation.
  • Status: An accepted valid work permit is required at application and assessment; maintained or restoration status is insufficient.
  • Education: Canadian high-school equivalency is generally required. PGWP holders have additional Alberta credential and occupation-related requirements. Required professional licensing must also be met.

Experience is assessed in the current occupation, not by a universal requirement for 12 continuous months with one employer. Review the full official eligibility criteria.

Expression of interest and application

  1. Submit a Worker Expression of Interest. The fee is $135, effective April 7, 2026. Selection depends on program priorities and does not guarantee nomination.
  2. If invited, click the invitation link and start your application within 15 days. After creating it, complete, submit and pay within 30 days.
  3. The worker-stream application fee is $1,500. Pay within 24 hours after submitting the application and within the application deadline. Follow the invitation and portal instructions.

See Alberta’s current application steps and deadlines. The former 90-day deadline shown on this page should not be used.

After nomination

Apply to IRCC for permanent residence before your nomination expires, generally within six months. Follow the AOS nomination package and official post-nomination instructions. Nomination does not automatically renew a work permit or grant permanent residence.

Preparing your file

Check the current official document checklist and ensure your employment, status, education and language evidence supports every claim. Processing times and invitation thresholds can change; do not treat an estimate as a guaranteed decision date.
