Alberta AAIP Gets 200 Additional Nominations for 2026: New Total 6,603

The Government of Alberta announced on August 10, 2026 that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has given the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) an additional 200 nomination spaces for the 2026 calendar year. Alberta’s total 2026 nomination allocation now stands at 6,603, up from 6,403. The announcement appeared on Alberta’s AAIP Updates page, with the province stating that the “expanded capacity strengthens our ability to support regional labour market needs and advance key provincial priorities.”

The 200 spaces were not spread evenly. Alberta redistributed nominations across streams, with the Alberta Opportunity Stream getting the largest boost and two streams — Law Enforcement Pathway and Entrepreneur — actually being reduced. Where the extra 200 spaces went

The Alberta Opportunity Stream — Alberta’s most in-demand pathway — received the biggest boost with 137 additional nominations, pushing it to 3,562 for the year. This stream requires a job offer in Alberta, qualifying Alberta work experience, and language ability, and it accounted for roughly half of the total AAIP allocation before the boost.

The Rural Renewal Stream gained 57 spaces (now 1,057). Rural Renewal is employer-driven — candidates need endorsement from a designated rural community in Alberta and a genuine job offer in that community. With 613 nominations already issued as of July 30, 444 spaces remain.

The Dedicated Health Care Pathways (both Express Entry and non-Express Entry) gained 18 spaces (now 518), reflecting the ongoing demand for practice-ready physicians under NOC 31100/31101/31102 and eligible health occupations. Alberta has issued 220 nominations under this pathway so far. Note that physician nominations that meet the federal criteria for the pan-Canadian 10,000-space physician-and-Francophone pool sit outside the AAIP’s 6,603 allocation entirely — Alberta has issued 50 physician and 12 Francophone nominations under that separate federal initiative in 2026.

Two Express Entry-aligned pathways — Accelerated Tech and Priority Sector Draws — each gained 19 spaces (now 619 apiece). Priority Sector Draws cover construction, manufacturing, agriculture, aviation, and skilled trades linked to each sector.

Which streams lost space

The Alberta Express Entry Law Enforcement Pathway was cut most sharply, from 38 nominations down to just 12 — a reduction of 26 spaces. Fewer than 10 nominations have been issued in this pathway this year, and the reduced allocation reflects that limited uptake.

The Entrepreneur Streams — which include the Rural Entrepreneur Stream, Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream, International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, and Farm Stream — were reduced from 90 to 60 spaces. With 30 already issued as of July 30, only 30 Entrepreneur spaces remain for the balance of 2026 across all four sub-streams. Applicants sitting in the AAIP Entrepreneur queue should expect a tighter selection window for the rest of the year.

What this means for AAIP candidates

With 2,711 nomination spaces remaining as of July 30, 2026 across all worker and entrepreneur streams — and 1,585 applications already in the queue to be processed — AAIP has meaningful capacity to continue issuing invitations through the last four months of the year. Practically:

• Alberta Opportunity Stream and Rural Renewal Stream candidates will see the most nomination activity, since those two streams received nearly all of the additional spaces (194 of the 200).
• Alberta Express Entry candidates in the Accelerated Tech and Priority Sector pathways benefit from a modest bump — CRS + Alberta nomination scoring remains the deciding factor at draw time.
• Law Enforcement Pathway candidates now compete for a much narrower pool. Applicants who already received a nomination are unaffected; those still in the pool should evaluate other pathways.
• Entrepreneur Stream applicants face a tighter runway. With 30 spaces left across four Entrepreneur sub-streams, expect more selective invitation criteria in Q3/Q4 draws.

These numbers are point-in-time. Alberta updates its Processing information page regularly — the July 30 snapshot above is the most recent published as of this article. Any AAIP nomination issued in 2026 for a physician or Francophone that meets federal criteria will not count against Alberta’s 6,603 allocation.

The bigger picture — 2026 PNP allocations

Alberta’s original 6,403 allocation for 2026 was already 31% higher than its 2025 allocation of 4,875, in line with the federal 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan that increased overall PNP admissions from 55,000 in 2025 to 91,500 in 2026. The additional 200 spaces bring Alberta’s year-over-year growth to roughly 35%. In addition, all provinces share access to a pool of up to 10,000 federal spaces reserved for practice-ready physicians and Francophone candidates outside the base provincial allocation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the extra 200 mean AAIP will run more draws?

Not automatically. The additional space raises the ceiling on how many nominations AAIP can issue this year but does not on its own schedule new draws. AAIP typically holds multiple draws per month across streams; the extra capacity gives more room for the Alberta Opportunity Stream and Rural Renewal Stream to keep running large draws through Q3 and Q4 2026 without hitting the annual cap prematurely.

If I already applied to the Entrepreneur Stream, am I affected?

Any Entrepreneur nomination Alberta has already issued in 2026 (30 as of July 30) stands. The concern is future selections — only 30 Entrepreneur spaces remain across the Rural Entrepreneur, Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa, International Graduate Entrepreneur, and Farm sub-streams for the rest of 2026. Alberta may prioritize applicants whose profiles are closest to nomination-ready.

Are physicians and Francophones counted in the 6,603?

No. Practice-ready physicians (NOC 31100, 31101, 31102) and Francophone candidates (CLB/NCLC 5 in French across all four abilities) who meet the federal criteria for the pan-Canadian 10,000-space initiative are nominated outside Alberta’s 6,603 provincial allocation. Alberta had issued 50 physician and 12 Francophone nominations under this initiative as of the latest processing update.
